Did you know that the Zahn Center has advanced prototyping equipment like 3D printers and laser cutters? This Fall, we’re opening it up to you, CCNY. Let’s #makestuff! If you are a maker, crafter, DIY-fanatic (or if you’ve ever wanted to be one) then consider taking part in our first-ever Maker Olympics.

So what are the Maker Olympics?

Kicking off on September 16th, the Maker Olympics is a semester-long series of exciting design, hardware, and presentation workshops culminating in a November Hackathon. The workshops are designed to introduce you to design and hardware concepts, build upon existing knowledge and expertise, and prepare you for the Hackathon and/or entrance into our 2017 Startup Competition.

Workshops include:

*Students must register for the each event by clicking on the link. Tickets are generally $5, but the first 10 to register get in for free. You can also access club codes.

We encourage you to attend all workshops that interest you! And while each workshop is meant to get you ready for the Hackathon, you do not have to attend all (or any of them!) to enter the Hackathon.

Hackathon guidelines:

  • Work on any project you like, as long as it’s a physical product
  • You must register with at least one teammate
  • There are prizes available for individuals and clubs
  • Winners will also be considered for “fast track” status into the 2017 Startup Competition

Interested in Being a Super User?

This 2016 fall semester, we’ve launched an initiative to integrate more of the student body into the Zahn Innovation Makerlab and promote hardware innovation across campus. Five CCNY students will be invited to become “Super Users” of the Zahn Innovation Center Maker lab, essentially an apprentice of the maker lab.

Requirements:

– Must be a active CCNY Student
– Must assist/volunteer or teach one of the Maker Olympics workshops
– Must have a great passion for manufacturing, engineering, craftsmanship or will love to know how things are made and promote it around campus
